In celebration of World Heritage Day, an array of activities at the Sharjah Maritime Museum

As the globe celebrates the World Heritage Day every April 18th, Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) is organizing various activities to mark the occasion.

Among a variety of activities Sharjah Maritime Museum, part of SMA, celebrates the annual event through several heritage, cultural and entertaining programs.

The five-hour program, which starts at 4:30 PM, hosts a storyteller who narrates “Story from Memory” in the outside arena of the museum.

Other activities include a traditional food corner, Al Ayyala traditional dance and folkloric performances from India and Egypt as well as a number of crafts and d├ęcoupage workshops.

SMA’s Education and Interpretation Department will display a number of Emirati artifacts and objects as part of the event while the Sharjah Maritime Museum organizes a shipbuilding workshop.

The “Pen and Notepad” workshop will be held by Al Eslah School Museum and another titled “Make Your Own Wallet” will be organized by the Sharjah Heritage Museum while Bait Al Naboodah opens a heritage photography studio for visitors.

The program also dedicates a number of educational and entertaining activities and competitions targeting children which aim to provoke their sense of wonder and boost their cultural awareness.

The event comes in line with SMA’s goals to showcase the rich heritage and culture of the United Arab Emirates and that of other countries and to spread tolerance through a better understanding of other and different cultures.
