Hamdan and Alia Children Storybooks
The Sharjah Museums Department’s launched officially museum-loving, child-friendly cartoon characters Hamdan and Alia as ambassadors of the Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) to attract children and the younger generation to the many exciting activities carried out by museums and to promote them and their collections in a way that is fun and educational at the same time.
The idea of Hamdan and Alia was first born in 2008 when the lack of information about archaeology, and especially Sharjah's archaeological treasures, targeted at children was noticed. To address this gap, the colourful, attractive storybook ‘Hamdan and Alia- a Visit to the Archaeology Museum’ aimed at children aged 7-12 years was developed to introduce the Museum and encourage children to read about the archaeological history of their country.
The main characters of the book, Hamdan and Alia, are a brother and sister whose voracious curiosity leads them on a fun family adventure to the Sharjah Archaeology Museum where they explore the Emirate's rich history through the many collections on display. After the success of the first storybook, Hamdan and Alia’s adventures were expanded into a series that currently include the Sharjah Science Museum, Sharjah Classic Cars Museum, Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, Sharjah Aquarium, Sharjah Heritage Museum and Al Mahatta Museum in addition to the Sharjah Archaeology Museum and are consistently published in both Arabic and English.
